The history of our club
In 1899 it was decided the club needed a motto, preferably in the style of the Latin examples that were so in vogue in English football at the time. Then chairman and infamous alcoholic Malachy Fink-Nottle wanted a motto that would reflect the long, hard work ahead in building a football club of which Richmond could be proud: “Slow and Steady Wins the Race.”
